New Career Site - Fall of 2018

Our Commitment to you as a Job Applicant

It’s critical to us that you have a positive experience when you apply for one (or more) of our positions.

We have made good progress improving our business processes to better serve the job applicant community. A lot of this has been “behind the scenes” and while you may have noticed some improvement, we know we still have much more to do.

We are very excited to announce that we will be launching a new Recruiting and Hiring System in the Fall of 2018. It will have a brand-new, user-friendly interface that will guide you to where you want to go on our career site. Our goal is to vastly improve our communication with our candidates and give you the positive experience you deserve.

We have posted some FAQs below, and will post updates and more information about the system as we go along in our implementation.

Thank you,

Vermont Department of Human Resources

How will the new system be different?

It will have a new user interface with clear and intuitive navigation that will make searching and applying for jobs easier! With enhanced status updates you’ll be able to better understand where you are in the process as we consider your application.  Finally, you’ll be able to join our Talent Pipeline and we will keep you informed about job opportunities that match your interests. The other FAQs below will address some of the other changes coming.

How will my job searches be better?

You will have the capability to search jobs and filter to results on the careers front page without having to navigate to more “advanced searches.” Job postings will be clear and concise and give you the details you need to decide on applying.

I have an account on the current Careers Site, do I need to create a new one for the new system?

Yes, you will need to create a new profile, but our new system will significantly shorten the time to create a profile. You can also leverage your LinkedIn profile to import that information.

Will it be easier to apply for a job?

Yes! You can apply by using an existing profile, create a new profile or apply through your LinkedIn account! Once you have created an account and signed in, you will be able to apply for jobs with a more streamlined process. The “application” time will be reduced if you upload your resume as our new system will extract your resume details into the application and you will need to make only minor edits, if any at all!

You’ll also be able to upload multiple documents to an application (resume, cover letters, letters of recommendation, certifications, etc.) vs. today when there is only one file allowed.

Can I search and apply from a mobile device?

Yes! Our new system will be mobile friendly or “responsive.” You can apply directly from your device or start the process and save it for later when you are on a computer if you need to grab files from there.

Do I need to download an app on my mobile device to apply?

No. We don’t want to make you have another app taking up precious memory on your device!

How about browsers. Can I use any of them?

Our new system will support the more current versions of all popular browsers.

Is my information safe?

Our system is a cloud-based solution, meaning we store none of your application/profile data on our premises. It is stored at a 24-hour guarded facility that adheres to state of the art cybersecurity technology best practices.

What if I need help with my application or navigating the system?

We will provide a much more comprehensive online help library that will answer almost every question or issue you have. During our initial “go-live” phase, we will also provide the ability to contact us if you need further help.

How will I know my status?

When you apply, your application will be confirmed on screen and acknowledged through an email that will outline the process going forward, so you have a proper understanding of the reviewing timeline.

You will also be able to easily log on and check your status at any time.

Will my application be reviewed more quickly than it is now?

One of our primary goals with a new system is to improve the time it takes to review applications. Our new system has an advanced internal communication workflow between the critical parties (Candidate, Recruitment, Human Resources and Hiring Managers) that will over time shorten the time you are waiting to hear from us and improve candidate communication in all phases of the hiring process.

How will I know when a job offer is in the system for me to review?

You will still have a conversation with the hiring manager about any offer they intend to present to you, but you will also be notified via email that there is an offer to be reviewed. Much like today, you will be able to log on and review and accept your offer, but now it will be confirmed immediately on screen.

What can I do to be ready when the new system goes live in the Fall of 2018?

There is nothing you are required to do, but a few things that will make your experience even better:

  • While it’s not required, the system works best when you upload a chronological resume with your application. A well-organized resume that lists specific work history and education will be able to be read by the system and the information extracted from it will make your application time shorter! For tips on resume writing, please go to our resume writing page on the DHR Website
  • Our system will feature clear, easy to read job postings. It is strongly recommended that you carefully read the job description and minimum qualifications of the job before applying and ensure your resume and/or application clearly shows examples of how you meet those qualifications.
  • If you do receive a job offer through the system, you will be notified via email. We recommend the sooner you can log in and accept that offer the better chance we have for a very successful “onboarding process” (getting ready for your first day as a state employee)

What if I have more questions?

If you do have any more questions, please reach out to us at dhr.recruitment@vermont.gov and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.
