Class Definition

This position is the first of five levels in the IT Specialist series. Entry level work in one or more areas of information technology in support of an agency or department. The incumbent works under the close supervision of a technical supervisor. Receives regular instruction and training while participating in the day to day activities of the unit. As the incumbent develops skills in an area, supervision is gradually reduced and incumbent receives progressively more complex assignments.

Examples of Work

Assists with the installation of basic hardware and software. Assists with, operates, and configures basic hardware and software. Performs initial diagnosis of simple computer or peripheral problems. Coordinates warranty repairs with hardware manufacturers. May participate in testing and debugging of hardware and software and documents completed work. Must follow change management procedures. Performs password resets in a helpdesk setting and establishes user profiles and environments. Maintains hardware and software inventories. Performs related duties as required.

Environmental Factors

Duties are generally performed in a standard office setting. Some work outside of regular work schedule may be required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of basic capabilities of computer hardware and software.

Ability to maintain inventories and use ticket systems.

Ability to prepare clear and concise written documentation.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Strong customer service skills.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.
