Incumbents may supervise a variety of staff including other professionals. |
Examples of Work | Incumbents provide statewide leadership in a variety of programs and capacities. Some incumbents may work with an assigned team, unit, or section and are responsible for insuring that all assigned activities and resources are properly coordinated. Serves as an advocate for the group or program to obtain support for its programs and projects both within the Department and in the broader educational community. Incumbents design and create systems to address specific educational and program goals. Incumbents may formulate educational organizational and operational plans, grants, contracts or procedures for achieving program goals. Reviews and analyzes educational practices and procedures in place, evaluates practices and makes recommendations to ensure established educational standards are met. Speaks to groups and organizations to explain services and to promote cooperation and understanding; serves on committees, boards or councils. Provides technical planning assistance and training to schools, community groups and other organizations. Works with schools, groups and others to analyze areas of need, in planning to meet needs and in documenting program effectiveness and compliance with appropriate educational guidelines. Works to remove barriers that impede continuous educational improvement. Resolves complex conflicts, advises schools, organizations or the general public about specific programs and sensitive issues. May serve as a statewide subject area expert providing specific consulting services to school districts, professional organizations, vocational programs, other state and local agencies. Promotes and consults on establishing organizational missions, planning and policy documents, special programs, improving or restructuring existing programs and assists with problems arising during developing, organizing or operating such programs. |
Environmental Factors | Work is generally performed in a standard office setting but significant travel may be anticipated for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal work schedule may be required. There may be considerable interaction with a variety of publics and strong differences of opinion may be encountered. |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Considerable knowledge of one or more educational or technical specialties. |
Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree in education, public administration, or related field AND four (4) years or more at a professional level in education, program development, or leadership role in a public or private educational institution. |
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s degree |
