Class Definition | Psychological and coordinating work involving the planning and delivering of clinical psychology services and Department staff training at the Department of Mental Health, other state operated facilities, or community-based programs. Duties may include administration of a program involved in the delivery of psychological or multi-discipline treatment services to patients. Extensive interaction occurs with staff of other human service disciplines. Duties are performed under the general direction of a professional administrative superior. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate staff, graduate interns, and others on a regular or project basis. All employees of the Agency of Human Services perform their respective functions adhering to four key practices: customer service, holistic service, strengths-based relationships and results orientation. |
Examples of Work | Serves as a consultant to a multi-discipline treatment team, that develops and implements a care-treatment plan for each assigned patient. Develops detailed behavioral interventions based on extensive functional analyses. Tracks the progress of these interventions, trains staff in their implementation and makes alterations based on ongoing data collection. May provide psychological assessment of patients and recommendations for treatment action. May testify as an expert witness in court. Conducts both individual and group counseling sessions as appropriate. As a member of the psychology section, may participate in research studies and projects. Provides training to both psychology graduate interns and staff of other disciplines at the facility. Performs related work as required. |
Environmental Factors | Duties are performed mainly in either an office or clinical setting at a state-operated facility, designated hospital or community-based services program. Direct interaction with clients who are identified as having major mental illness, behavior management support needs, and may be at risk of harm to self or others. Duties typically occur within a normal workday and workweek, but emergencies and other exceptions may occur |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Extensive knowledge of behavioral theory and practice. Extensive knowledge of the best practice guidelines in clinical psychology. Considerable knowledge of the role of clinical psychology as one component of a Multi-Disciplinary treatment program. Extensive knowledge of the professional standards and codes of ethics applicable to the field of psychology. Extensive knowledge of the effects of psychological trauma on human behavior. Working knowledge of training principles and practices. Ability to conceptualize and create a broad range of psychological services to persons in active treatment settings. Ability to conduct intensive psychological assessments of patients and to develop effective treatment approaches. Ability to conceptualize and write client and program reports. Ability to perform job duties within the framework of the four key practices of the Agency of Human Services: customer service, holistic service, strength-based relationships and results orientation. |
Minimum Qualifications | Ph.D. or PsyD. in Clinical Psychology from an accredited program AND one (1) year of experience as a psychologist at a professional level. OR Master's degree in Psychology AND five (5) years of clinical experience as a psychologist at a professional level. Note: Must be Licensed or eligible for Licensure as a Psychologist in the State of Vermont |
Preferred Qualifications | Experience as a Psychologist in an inpatient setting preferred. |
