W2 Phishing Email Alert

The following message pertains to current state employees:

The State is aware of the below email phishing attempt reaching state employee mailboxes. The email relates to employee W-2 forms. Contrary to the phishing email, the State's policy is to send paper copies and not electronic copies of W-2's. This email, or those similar, should not be responded to nor should the link be clicked.   If you already have clicked the link, please call your department’s IT helpdesk ASAP and let them know. 

To submit a junk or phishing scam message to Microsoft:

  1. Create a new, blank email.
  2. Address the email to the Microsoft team that reviews messages as follows:
  3. Copy and paste the junk or phishing scam message into that email (as an attachment).

Subject: IMPORTANT TAX RETURN DOCUMENT AVAILABLE

Dear Account Owner,

Our records indicate that you are enrolled in the Vermont State paperless W2 Program. As a result, you do not receive a paper W2 but instead receive e-mail notification that your online W2 (i.e. "paperless W2") is prepared and ready for viewing.

Your 2015 W2 corrected statement is ready for viewing, follow the link below
