Reduction in Force

Overview

Reduction in Force or RIF is the layoff of a classified employee from employment due to lack of work, lack of funds, or otherwise pursuant to management rights. RIF’ed employees may have certain reemployment rights.

For more information on the State's RIF procedures, please see our Reduction-In-Force FAQ under the Forms & Documents section.

The Reduction-in-Force FAQ is intended to provide general information about the lay off/RIF process and general RIF Reemployment (Recall) information. This is an overview only; individual situations will vary. It is important that you read the Collective Bargaining Agreement(CBA's) language regarding RIF and contact your Department HR Administrator with questions.
