Personal Leave Incentive

What is the Personal Leave Incentive Program?

In addition to annual leave and sick leave hours, employees in classified service in the Non-Management bargaining unit are awarded personal leave hours. if:
- They have completed their six-month probationary period
- They have not used more than 8 hours of sick time during the quarter, and
- They have not been off payroll at any point during the quarter

How many personal leave incentive hours can I accrue?

There are 10 hours awarded each quarter according to a schedule set for the fiscal year.

The hours expire and are forfeited if not used by the end dates noted in this chart:

Employees are encouraged to refer to further terms of use for the awarding and loss of personal leave hours in the Personnel Policy and Procedures Manual:
Section 14, Number 14.3 (pdf)

When can I use my personal leave hours?

The hours are available for use as soon as you see them recorded in your HR Advice in the Self-Service area of the VTHR system

Why wasn't I awarded personal leave hours?

If you used more than 8 hours of sick leave during the quarter, you are ineligible for that quarter's award.
If you were off payroll at any point during the quarter, you are ineligible for that quarter's award.
If you completed your six-month probation during the quarter, you are not eligible for the award until the following quarter.
